You're right, but I see it mostly as a recommendation, which can be eventually bypassed on special situations: "Non-conformance with guidelines denoted by should (or recommended) will generally be considered a bug, but will not necessarily render a package unsuitable for distribution." (https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-scope.html) Anycase, as I said, I don't know details about this need, and I don't know how MuseScore would be affected in Debian if we use our freetype packages. I'm just trusting the upstreams (whom I've been working with for some time). But as I don't have much time now to go into the issue, I'll be fine with any decision from the team.
