About debian/gbp.conf of this repo, it has the following tow lines:

upstream-branch =
upstream-tag = v%(version)s



How about delete these two lines?
If do so, we can use gbp default way to import upstream.

Yes it is protected so that I cannot push as a regular team member.

Just unprotected the branch.
