Package: pulseaudio Version: 0.9.15-1 Severity: normal Since installation of 0.9.15-1 (0.9.14 worked without problems) I can not use pulseaudio in its default configuration with my soundcard (Terratec EWS88 MT). Like #522177 (where I reported this first), I received no error messages, no indication that anything is wrong, but still got no sound.
If I understand correctly, pulseaudio tries to get different configuration profiles from the ALSA information (seen with pulseaudio -vv). In my case, there are no profiles for the analog outputs. Pulseaudio will log lines like: D: alsa-util.c: Checking for playback on analog-stereo (front) D: alsa-util.c: Trying front:0 with SND_PCM_NO_AUTO_FORMAT ... D: alsa-util.c: Trying front:0 without SND_PCM_NO_AUTO_FORMAT ... D: alsa-util.c: Trying plug:front:0 with SND_PCM_NO_AUTO_FORMAT ... D: alsa-util.c: Trying plug:front:0 without SND_PCM_NO_AUTO_FORMAT ... I: alsa-util.c: Failed to set hardware parameters on plug:front:0: Invalid argument However, it does find configuration profiles for the digital inputs and outputs: D: alsa-util.c: Checking for playback on iec958-stereo (iec958) D: alsa-util.c: Trying iec958:0 with SND_PCM_NO_AUTO_FORMAT ... [...] D: alsa-util.c: Checking for capture on iec958-stereo (iec958) D: alsa-util.c: Trying iec958:0 with SND_PCM_NO_AUTO_FORMAT ... I: module-alsa-card.c: Found output profile 'Output Digital Stereo (IEC958) + Input Digital Stereo (IEC958)' And as a result, the only profiles available will be the digital ones (as seen on the rightmost tab in pavucontrol). My workaround is to disable module-hal-detect and manually load-module module-alsa-sink, which works but is not how I want things to work (or how I think it should work). -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (550, 'stable'), (101, 'unstable'), (100, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages pulseaudio depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii consolekit 0.3.0-2 framework for defining and trackin ii libasound2 1.0.19-1 shared library for ALSA applicatio ii libasyncns0 0.3-1 Asyncronous name service query lib ii libc6 2.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcap2 1:2.16-5 support for getting/setting POSIX. ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libflac8 1.2.1-1.2 Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtim ii libgdbm3 1.8.3-4 GNU dbm database routines (runtime ii libhal1 0.5.12~git20090406.46dc48-2 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libice6 2:1.0.5-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libltdl7 2.2.6a-4 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libogg0 1.1.3-5 Ogg Bitstream Library ii liboil0.3 0.3.15-1 Library of Optimized Inner Loops ii libpolkit-db 0.9-3 library for accessing PolicyKit vi ii libpolkit2 0.9-3 library for accessing PolicyKit ii libpulse0 0.9.15-1 PulseAudio client libraries ii libsamplerat 0.1.7-2 audio rate conversion library ii libsm6 2:1.1.0-2 X11 Session Management library ii libsndfile1 1.0.18-2 Library for reading/writing audio ii libspeexdsp1 1.2~rc1-1 The Speex extended runtime library ii libvorbis0a 1.2.0.dfsg-4 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisenc 1.2.0.dfsg-4 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libwrap0 7.6.q-16 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 2:1.2.1-1 X11 client-side library ii libxtst6 2:1.0.3-1 X11 Testing -- Resource extension ii lsb-base 3.2-22 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip Versions of packages pulseaudio recommends: ii gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio 0.10.14-2 GStreamer plugin for PulseAudio ii libasound2-plugins 1.0.19-2 ALSA library additional plugins ii padevchooser 0.9.3-2 PulseAudio Device Chooser ii paprefs 0.9.6-2 PulseAudio Preferences ii pulseaudio-esound-compat 0.9.15-1 PulseAudio ESD compatibility layer ii pulseaudio-module-hal 0.9.15-1 HAL device detection module for Pu ii pulseaudio-module-x11 0.9.15-1 X11 module for PulseAudio sound se Versions of packages pulseaudio suggests: ii paman 0.9.4-1 PulseAudio Manager ii pavucontrol 0.9.8-1 PulseAudio Volume Control ii pavumeter 0.9.3-1 PulseAudio Volume Meter ii pulseaudio-utils 0.9.15-1 Command line tools for the PulseAu -- no debconf information _______________________________________________ Pkg-pulseaudio-devel mailing list Pkg-pulseaudio-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-pulseaudio-devel
