The same crash happens with both ruby1.8 and ruby1.9.1.

Attached minimal test case to reproduce the problem. It must be run from
the root of the package source. It will build everything that is
necessary before running the actual test case. To test with a different
ruby interpreter, run `debian/rules clean` and then run test.rb again
(it will rebuild the C extension against the new ruby interpreter)

I am also attaching strace output for running this test against both
ruby1.8 and ruby1.9.1
