Hello,
My attempt to get a sparc64 booting without keyboard breaks in init.
The string "INIT" nevers appears, but I see kernel messages like:

Kernel command line: root=/dev/hda1 ro console=ttyS0,9600
To me it looks like that init switches baudrate or changes
other settings on the (serial line of the) console.
Other information:
* It is an intermitted problem
(sometime the system dies at rcS, sometimes at rc2, some succesfull boots)
* IIRC the few (about five) headless boots with 2.4.26 went fine.
* The serial cable I use, has only TxD and RxD lines
(no CTS, no RTS, no DTR, no DSR handshake lines)
* Could be related to bugreport #226986
