Where do you have this idea from? The manual page did not mention anything about the features obsoleteness only affecting packages. The information I found indicated that the feature itself was obsolete, and this is the reason I dropped it. I do not have any strong opinions either way, but believe that a feature that is flagged obsolete should eventually be removed. Flagging a feature as obsolete for 10 years seemed enough warning time to me, and that is the background for me removing the code.
