Debian stretch is now in freeze stage, so uploading to unstable won't get to stretch automatically anymore. I think you'll have to ask the release team if they'll grant this version to enter stretch. Usually, serious enough bugreports help in that. As far as I can see, the diff from the previous version is sufficiently small and reasonable, so I'd say it's a good chance you'll get the freeze exception even without a bugreport, but a good explanation of what happens and why this changes are important is still necessary.
