Hi!
Today after installing and starting xfce4, I saw that the Debian menu
was empty.
Running update-menus as root solved the problem.
Maybe xfce4 is missing a call to update-menus, after being installed?

Hi,
With Xfce 4.6, xfdesktop4 dropped its own menu code, and switched to an
xdg-compliant menu library called libxfce4menu (and it switched to an
even more compliant one in 4.8, called garcon). Therefore, issues with
menu.xml and menudefs.hook are not relevant to xfdesktop as it moved to
the XDG menu spec.
