In Debian 9, up to date version as of July 2 2017, vanilla installation
with XFCE desktop environment, I observed clock issues (using default
panel setup).

Clock does not remember its setting when set to *Layout: Digital*. When
clicking the close button to close the clock applet's preferences
window, all the text on the clock disappears. I suspect it is replaced
by empty format string. Similar goes for tooltip text.

*Steps to reproduce:*

 1. In clock applet's preferences set Layout to Digital.
 2. Under Clock Options set Format to anything other than Custom Format.
 3. Click the Close button.

Note that text on the clock disappears after closing the window. If it
does not work, try picking different clock layout before reproducing the
bug.

Using Custom Format works, but only as long as user does not open
preferences again and clicks close button. Clicking the close button
seemingly sets both fields to Custom Format and assigns empty strings to
them. Text disappears again.
