Backlinks work for me. I have the latest development versions of planner
and muse here, so there might be some changes since the last planner
release that affect this; I can’t see anything obvious, though.

I tested it by setting up a new planner directory and doing exactly the
same things that you describe above.

There isn’t anything in muse-backlink that would interfere with the
inclusion of the template, I suppose that it doesn’t get inserted
because of the error.  It looks as though an error report might be
necessary to see what is going wrong, I am afraid.
