Hi All,

I've got a very minor problem relating to tracking down "bad" tasks. Every now
and again, when doing (plan), I will get messages saying something along the
lines of "Cannot plan unscheduled task" or something similar (sorry, can't
remember the exact text and don't have an example at hand just now).

I then have to try and track down which is the offending task. However, this is
not easy because the error message doesn't actually provide any indication
which task is causing the problem. The one way I've managed to resolve this is
to just do a "re-plan" on each of the tasks. this seems to fix the problem.

I've got no idea yet why this occurs. I think my setup is quite standard and
I've not added any of my own code to planner. I have noticed some
inconsistencies with task numbers and some inconsistency with the space/indent
of tasks. This may be related, but I've not been able to track it down yet. for
example, when I add a task, it will be of the format

#B1 _ My Task Text........

but often, especially on subsequent plan pages, the number will just disappear
and the indenting will change. I'll end up with a mixture of tasks like

#B1 _ Task 1
#B2 _ Task 2
#B _ Task ? (number gone)
#B3 _ Task 3 (should be 4)

etc.

What I'm really wanting is not a solution to my task numbering or indent/format
issues, but rather better error messages that would facilitate tracking
problems like this down. A message stating that planner cannot plan an
unscheduled task is fairly useless if it gives no indication of which task it
is referring to - especially if you have quite a few tasks some scheduled and
some not.

Apart from that, I can state that I've been using planner mode now since august
last year and so far, I absolutely love it. I'm running a fairly 'out of the
box' setup with the additional sections in the plan files for the timeclock
data and the report section in project pages. I did try planner mode once
before, but gave up in anger when, for no apparent reason, I started up emacs
and all my plan/project pages had gotten all screwed up. Never did find out
what the cause was (I never edit tasks by hand - always use the available
functions for that). However, it resulted in me having to spend considerable
time trying to get all my info and task lists back. I gave up and decided to
wait and try again later when the product was possibly a bit more mature. I can
say now that I think it is more mature (especially in the core functionality)
and I'm hard pressed to find issue with any of it (apart from the error message
issue already mentioned).

Its a great mode and everyone who has worked on it has done a great job. I
checked out org mode as a comparison and because I could appreciate the org mode
supporters criticism that planner mode uses too many different files and has
too high a risk of things getting out of synch. However, while I do like to use
org-mode for some tasks, planner-mode is IMO a far more powerful and convenient
PIM solution - at least for the way I like to work. It would be nice if someday
planner mode was bundled with emacs 22 (we could start by getting muse bundled
in?).

thanks again to everyone for such a great mode.

Tim
