Well, erm, yes, but this is the planner mode default, I think?

M-x planner-create-task (enter)
planner asks for a task:
"do this" (enter)
planner asks for a date:
enter "nil" (literally, but without the quotes)
planner asks for a plan page
fill in relevant plan page(s) (enter)

tada!

this "do this" will not show up on every "day plan page" but it will
show up on the Taskpool and the plan page you filled in.

Try this?

Q: How many supply-siders does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. The darkness will cause the light bulb to change by itself.
