Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work, either.  Adding 
(setq planner-project "/home/ktneely/Plans/") 

to my .emacs (or replacing (setq planner-project "WikiPlanner")) still does not 
force emacs to recognize that this directory is filled with planner project 
files.
