Folks,

I'd like to arrange a meeting among those of us who are interested in seeing
what we can develop to handle the voicemail replacement.

It seems to me that what we need to figure out is what underlying functions
and applications are needed in order to build a pure dialplan-based
voicemail. We all seem pretty much agreed that with the right tools in
place, a dialplan-based voicemail is not an impossible dream.

What will these functions be? That is what we need to figure out. For
example, those folks who want to use IMAP should be able to do so. What does
that mean? What will that entail? On the other hand, for those who are not
going to want to get into all the extra work needed to get IMAP going, I'd
sure like to be able to offer something that works similarly to the current
app_voicemail, in the sense that it can work with the existing file
structure of the current app. Database storage is also popular, and should
be sorted out.

At this time, I am not so interested in the features of the new voicemail
(although some of that will need to be explored so that we can figure out
what functions will need to happen). What I think needs to be figured out
first are the fundamental building blocks that will allow such a thing to
exist. Once that is understood, then I think that building the dialplan part
of it will be easier.

If you have coding skills to contribute (or a high level of linux knowledge,
in order to help us figure out what might already exist that could be
re-used), we need your help. If you have a "wish list" of features, but
don't plan on helping with the development, that is OK too, and we are going
to want your input, but this meeting is not for you; we'll have a TAUG event
of some kind to give people a chance to help us figure out that part.

I'm pretty sure I can get space in Richmond Hill/Markham that'll consist of
a boardroom/whiteboard for about 8-10 people. If those of you who expressed
an interest in helping to develop this thing could let me know what sort of
timeframe might work for you, I can book the space.

Thanks, and regards,

Jim

P.S. Please respond to the planning list only.
