I agree that it's dull for us who have been doing it for a while, but the
fact is that I think there is still a lot of newbie interest in this. I
think we'll still see a lot of tire-kickers who still think of this as new
stuff.
I think we should have fireworks that fire off instead of a ringer on a phone.
Sometimes it helps to define what you are trying to do with a show. The
usual response is "all of the above" but we really need to drill down
what we are trying to accomplish.
At the core it's to promote interest in Asterisk and/or Open Source VoIP
technology. But to whom? Business owners? IT Managers? Enthusiasts? All
of the above ;-?
If it were a business owner I would sell things like "follow me" or VoIP
integration with CRM, pop-ups, time savers, that kind of thing. I have a
Firefox "click-to-dial" add-on and a Thunderbird click-to-dial add-on
that may generate interest. I intend to offer these for free.
If it's an IT manager the sale is a little more technical and should be
positioned where it makes sense. Add-ons to existing PBXs, call centers
apps, or as a unique option instead of expensive proprietary solutions.
This is something that you guys are more in touch with that I. How about
a take off on Microsoft's VoIP ads.
For enthusiasts I think the prospect of a home PBX and a $2.50 phone
line is quite a draw. Integration with MythTV for conferencing and
LinuxMCE for home monitoring is interesting too.
Hey there's something. Can we do anything with video conferencing there?
Even if it's only a video call it would be really cool. We could enlist
the help of an adjacent booth like the BSD girls or the TLUG folk to be
the other end.
