OK, It's working now, nearly working... Progress is broken, /etc/init.d/functions lack support for it, I'll try to fix it today. initrd with udev doesn't seem to work, it complains that his filesystem is mounted read only so it cannot create devices. IMHO we should move the FB_SPLASH variable to /e/s/fbsplash not /e/s/geninitrd - you can't use fbsplash without splash utils and it shouldn't be a requirement of geninitrd (someone might accidentally set the variable there and complain that it isn't working...)
