Guess what?  I'm an idiot. :-).

It turns out that you were right, but not in the way that I expected.  I
moved all the image files into the bochs directory and changed the .bochsrc
file to point to them and it still didn't work. Then, I realized that I was
using 10M disk image that I had the C drive pointing to but I still had
.bochsrc set to boot off of the A drive.  Heh.  So I changed that line to
boot: c, and then everything went perfectly.  Thanks for helping me decode
that ambiguous error message  I appreciate it.  Have fun guys, and keep up
the great work, it's really going to be helpful to folks like myself who
want to toy around with operating system development and despise
continuously rebooting off of a floppy disk.  :-).  Again, thanks a lot,
