Bullshit! I hadn't looked in /var/log/{message,warn}! In didn't find the
error messages in a terminal/konsole window, but the log files are full of it:

  # grep -c "Argh, IOPL(3) is wrong\!" /var/log/warn
  6040

So IOPL =is= wrong!
