Is it possible to run Windows on a partition, rather than an image?

Sorry if this question has already been asked.  I've got a dual boot 
computer with Linux and Windows, and it would be ideal for me to be able to 
start plex86 and boot Windows from that partition on the hard drive, without 
making an image of the drive.  Is that possible?
