Hi Martin:

Thanks for the information you sent. Unfortunately, I could not spot
anything wrong in that information. I believe you have eliminated
plfreetype or libfreetype as the source of the problem since -dev png gives
good results.

One concern I have is you are running the examples in the build tree. It
is not clear you built and linked those examples properly, but even if you
did (using the -DBUILD_TEST=ON option), -dev gcw is untested there because
it is an interactive device, and ctest (the quickie way developers test
examples in the build tree) only runs non-interactive devices.

My advice is the same as with any debugging effort; try to find as simple a
case as possible that still shows the bug. In this case, that means do your
tests in the install tree. Conditions are much simpler there since all the
libraries and device plugins and needed files are in standard locations
(rather than scattered all over the build tree).

So, start fresh with the svn trunk version of PLplot, set a convenient
install prefix, and then follow the usual method of install-tree testing of
the examples. (See
http://www.miscdebris.net/plplot_wiki/index.php?title=The_PLplot_install-tree_test).
