This is good news, indeed.

Your Debian packaging efforts and Orion's Fedora packaging efforts are
important.  According to the popularity contest statistics at
http://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=plplot something like 0.15 per cent
of Debian users regularly use libplplot9. If those percentages hold for the
combined RedHat, Debian, and Ubuntu users, and there are 10 million such
users (which is probably conservative), then we are talking about 15
thousand who regularly use binary versions of PLplot thanks to the packaging
efforts you and Orion make.  These are obviously extremely rough estimates,
but still I think it is clear that packaged binary use of PLplot is much
higher than usage from those who build it for themselves (~3000 have
downloaded plplot-5.9.5 since its release).
