Hi Jim: My understanding is plbuf supports unicode-aware system fonts. But my recent test (for details of the test, see the commit message for the commit git-decribed as plplot-5.15.0-31-g3af0b2cf1) showed the combination of -dev plm (which I presume writes plbuf information to a file) and plrender (which I presume reads that information) is still using Hershey fonts!
