I think the non-consecutive menu ID problem is a limitation of the
Macintosh resource format. In the CodeWarrior toolchain, Constructor, Rez,
and the PilRC plugin produce Mac resources, which get converted into Palm
resources by the Palm Rez Post Linker. From looking at UIResDefs.r in the
Palm OS SDK, you can see that the MENU type supported has a single ID for
the entire menu, with all of the menu items being attached to it with no ID
values. Without getting Palm to support an alternate menu resource format
for their Mac-to-Palm resource conversion, we can't get around the menu
item renumbering issue.
I can see where it would be useful, and I'll stick it on my list of issues
with the Palm SDK for the next time I talk to them.
