        Depending on the type of device you have, you can "dumb down" the
amount of colors represented in each image. The higher the color depth (bit
depth), the size of the image will grow, almost exponentially.

        That is true of any of the offline Palm readers/DOC readers,
however, we use zlib and/or DOC compression to try to alleviate that some.
Although, with jpg images to begin with, you won't get much compression out
of them after quantization anyway, but..

        I think you need to tinker around with MAXWIDTH/MAXHEIGHT and
ALTMAXWIDTH/ALTMAXHEIGHT.
