Some time ago i suggested the pipe "|" as a filename seperator because
this char is not allowed in any OS in an filename. But after an large
discussion all other disagree. And for the special chars that not
allowed in in files (CR, TAB, ...) is it possible to escape this like
%13 for CR.

Yes, i love ini files and i hate some complicated stuff like some
binary formats or XML for local settings. :-)

But that not the point of interest here back to topic.

Ah, yes as an exchange format this XML channel description are fine.

There are allready somithing like that in the windows version of
plucker. Create an text file with the extension *.plucker (contens
type are "application/x-plucker-channel") and double click it and it
will be added to the default channel. Or download an file with this
contents type with your browser an it will also be added. Yes, thats
an very simply way and with plucker-desktop and the XML we could do
this in an smarter way.

BTW: allow XML also binary data in some way. Maybe we could also store
the db icons in this XML instated pointing to some external bmp files?
So the db icons could also be distributed along with the info without
give some extra files away.

Or for backup reasons, or an admin install it on all client with an
similar directory structure? Right maybe useful.

But i do not see an high priority in this. At this time i like this
flat ini files and switch to XML for the local config make the stuff
more complicated.

Sound like the way the current windows version do it already, or i'm
wrong?

BTW: Is it possible that you give me (us?) an short overview how
plucker-desktop work, were it search the files and what files get the
priorities and how does the directory layout look like. Currently i
does not full understand how does it work all together.

BTW: Is an new precompiled binary available someware (i'm still
interested to try it out, but i'm not able to compile (or download all
the needed development tools to compile over my slow modem
connection))?
