The fake italics look bad when done on aa fonts. I am thinking of
implementing real italics. This would be really easy code-wise, except that
I am not sure it's possible to do real italics without decent kerning
without the result looking really ugly--currently character boxes cannot
overlap. What do people think?

I just ran PalmFontConv on an italic font, and plugged it into Plucker as a
default font. A screenshot of the results are at:
http://prussfamily.us/italic.png and the font itself (generated for both OS5
and Sony OS4) is at http://prussfamily.us/italicUtopia.prc . My opinion is
that it looks significantly better than the standard fake italics, even
though some character pairs like ff look quite bad.
