For those that are interested in contributing, I've decided to make
my list of PDA-formatted URLs public, but there's one condition... I need
your help maintaining the list.
I decided that a Wiki-based approach was the best format for this,
so I've put them up online in a format that allows you to edit the links and
provide comments for each one.
Note, this is _not_ a forum, so don't turn it into a message board.
There are over 600 URLs listed in the Wiki right now, and I'm sure a
portion of them are either down, or invalid, since the time I've scraped
them. Here's where I need your help. Don't just hit the site and slurp all
the URLs for your own use, without contributing back to the community. Give
something back, help us mature the list, and make these sites available and
accessible to everyone!
Here are some basic rules:
1. Test the URLs, see if they work, or have changed. If they have,
please update them to point to the new URL.
Please note that URLs which give you an "Access Denied" or
"Permission Denied" are _not_ bad URLs, they just require a
different mechanism to get into them. Please make sure you
comment the ones you find that are like this, but DO NOT DELETE
THEM.
2. Provide a good title and comment or description for the URL (I
didn't have time to provide useful comments for them when I was
scraping them).
3. Put them in the right categories, if they are in an incorrect
category, or unfiled. Make sure to MOVE them, don't copy them
from category to category. We want to eliminate the possibility
of duplicates.
4. Have fun, and don't abuse the Wiki. Please don't abuse the
content providers, and most of all, be nice to the people who
provide you this content, the remote sites themselves. Pounding
their website with spiders, crawlers, and other tools is not a
nice way to get them on our side.
Remember, the content on these websites is copyrighted, and
unauthorized duplication of that content, or redistribution of it without
their approval, is a violation of that copyright. Let's get on the good side
of these providers, not their bad side.
Good luck everyone, and don't forget to thank those who helped you.
d.
