When I first tried to get the original distiller running on Linux I had some issues with getting the right version of python installed and the right versions of the image libraries installed. (No slam against the original version intended -- with the proper environment set up, it works great!) The self contained Java version saved me from having to fiddle with that other stuff. Also, sorry if my first post about the source came off bad.
