Unfortunatly no. The problem comes in that the text is only drawn at one set speed. On a 160x160 device its not quite as bad to have the text update as you move the scrollbar. On a 320x320 device you have twice as much space to draw, but it's still going at the same speed. The end result is that it takes twice as long to draw text on hires devices than lores.
Also is this the reason why using the jogwheel to scroll is soo choppy? After 3-4 jogdial scrolls, it takes several seconds for the display to finish scrolling.
