This is an inconsistency in the way JPluck handles images. The point that there is no alternate image reference because you are looking at an image record and alternate images can only referenced from within a text record. The workaround, as you found out, is to create an HTML page that references the image. JPluck 2 will make a distinction between standalone and embedded images so you can configure them separately.
