Thanks Nuno and Dan for the information.

I am sorry to say that I am stuck using a windows laptop (company owned, not
mine, heck I am a contractor to them).  Of the two approaches I suspect the
palm emulator will be the easiest to get working (have done it before, not
sure why this did not occur to me).
