You can also set the hotsync manager to do this. It will force a spider every time you hotsync whether or not your channels are due. It took me a while to figure that out.

In Plucker Desktop (if that is what you are using), click on Options,
Preferences... Go to the Autoupdate tab and 4 lines down is a selection
to update due channels when pressing hotsync.  Now just set up your
channel to be due often enough and you'll be all set.
