I forgot to bring this up at the meeting tonight, but there is a project that started up recently that might be of interest to people.
http://www.eudyptula-challenge.org/ Basically, you sign up and you get tasks sent to you that you complete and then send the results back. It starts with a creating a very simple kernel module, and then builds from there.
