A couple items:
1) Apt/dpkg (the package manager underlying Mint's Update Manager) does not
have an undo capability. Updates, in particular, are one-way unless you want
to go through the history logs and explicitly pin then downgrade each of the 51
updates.
2) It actually sounds like dbus is hung (stale library handles, stale service
handles, etc...) after your updates and needs to be cleared out. This happens
not infrequently on desktop systems (lots of fiddly bits using the desktop bus
that don't manage their handles correctly). Usually, the only really effective
mechanism to clear a hung dbus is to do a system restart (and yes, I know it
sounds like Windows advice, dbus, unfortunately, replicates a lot of the
garbage design choices that make Windows require restarts).
  a) If you've already done a restart, then you may have library issues
(unlikely given your settings, but still possible). The command line 'sudo
apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' *might* fix those...
