After installing wine, you should just be able to double click to run .exe files. There isn't a "wine" launcher. There's third party ones, but It depends on what you need wine for. What windows program are you trying to run with wine?

I think I have 'wine' installed via synaptic

Synaptic shows a long list of packages, a few
of which show as being installed. But how can
one download the list of files that display
when one does a search for 'wine' and the long
list displays? CTRL "A" highlights everything,
but I cannot copy what is listed.
