What's your use case? If it's desktop activity like browsing, office
I've been waiting for someone to ask this question. I second your input
Arun.
I have an old HP laptop that has 16GB of RAM. Must have upgraded it at
some point... I think. It has one of those n something SSD drive which
left a place of a HD. I have some old stuff do I added a 500GB laptop
spinner.
It runs Win10. I use a video editor on it, Putty, Visual Studio Code,
and VirtualBox.
Not a powerhouse but it h=get the job done. In October I plan on putting
Kubuntu on it. I'm sure that will be a real upgrade.
My desktop/daily is an 10 year old dell running Kubuntu. I upgraded it
to an SSD and 16GB of RAM. It has what it takes. Was a cheap black
Friday or discounted for back to school.
I hear a lot of chatter about home labs and all the hardware everyone is
running, I almost bought lots of expensive hardware, however I am going
into the other direction. I probably will keep may old hardware running
Proxmox, And I might keep using Virtualbox, however I am thinking some
cheep shared hosting - where I create a sub-domain for each project.
PHP is just fancy text so it does not take up much space.... I use AWS
S3 as a sight backup, it cost me just over a buck a month.
Depending on your needs you might be able to getaway with a thin client
and some cheap cloud services.
I even looked into Chrome Machines... did not like the idea because they
seem to require s Google Mail account. However that might have been a
solution.
I think someone was offering a free laptop that seemed to have decent
specs that would make a very cool client side tool.
Keith
productivity then look for used computers on eBay.
I have repurposed HP/Dell/Lenovo "Thin Clients" into SOHO desktops
(Mint XFCE) for under $100, for a few non profit organizations.
