I have set up Samba before, but find I can do most of the "sharing" I
need between Windows and Linux using Putty (on Windows) and SSH.  

Putty is a free SSH implementation for Windows and can be found at
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
