Let me give some background first.
We are developing an web application using FreeBSD,
PHP 5.0, Apache 2.0, MySQl 4.0 or PostgreSQL 7.3.
We expect good amount of hits for the web application.
I need some info regarding what are the criterion we
should consider while selecting a server for designing
a web application:
1. how many concurrent processes can be taken up on
the server at one time. what are the min, max values?
2. how much hits per second a server can handle. what
are the min, max values?
3. anything else?
This will help us to decide
1. to have a dedicated server or a shared server can
serve the purpose.
2. Select the database mysql or postgresql.
