Which Linux distribution are you trying to install? Older versions do
have problems with SATA drives (e.g. SuSE 9.0 didn't detect my Seagate
SATA HDD.)

The work around is to switch to 'legacy' mode in BIOS
(BIOS->Advanced->Drive Configuration). Then select whichever drives
you want from the submenu (max. 4 drives can be active when operating
in legacy mode). Switching to legacy mode should solve your problem.

[My experience applies to D865GBF motherboard with P4 HT processor].
[Newer distributions, the ones with 2.6.x kernels, don't have such problems]
