Yeah, I wouldn't mind in making this into a regular
feature. Provided of course that people find it
interesting...

Agreed. Distributing the updates is cumbersome, and
maybe not required in many cases. I am not interested
in distributing the updates.
But someone says, "Hey Thats cool software, I should
try this" then shouldn't we make it easier for him to
get the software on the spot?

I know, it may be available in the distro CD. Suppose
the user dosen't have the installation CD. Or he/she
has given it to a friend, the 4th CD is not available,
the s/w is not available in the distro, etc. etc.
countless possibilities.
