This is OT though could be of concern. A video showing "Indian" EVM's vulnerabilities: http://indiaevm.org/
An article on this: http://www.ns.umich.edu/htdocs/releases/story.php?id=7667 While the points raised in the video may be theoretically valid and improvements on these lines may be possible, theoretically no system could be "fully secure" anyway. One has to trust in some system anyway. Besides, not clear why they call them as "India's EVM's" specifically. These or other vulnerabilities could be present anywhere in the world. Academics should perhaps keep it to general topic of EVM security and measures to overcome them rather than targeting a particular country's election system. Anyway, felt, it could be a good research and prototype building topic for students to take up as college project.
