Not sure whether chrome-on-linux would have newer flash revisions. (At least that's how I understood it from Adobe saying they won't support _Linux_.) The catch ups happen and open/libre office is a good example, though: - It becomes harder to win back users lost in the catch up phase. - This ploy is deliberate and not incidental. It implies, more the OSS options catch up, more incompatibilities will be created to ensure it never really catches up. (Not only incompatible features, but _content_ that uses such features that a user would have inclination to consume, would be poured upon the web.)
