just want to report even if it's kinda late on the "linux on laptop" thread...
got CentOS 4 working on my Compaq nx9040 laptop... install from CD has no working wi-fi and dial-up (winmodem)
got wireless working using ipw2100 firmware and drivers from
ipw2100.sourceforge.net
my Conexant HSF modem using installers from http://www.linuxant.com
problem with it is that my default route is not changed during dial-up (wvdial) so i have to manually change it (i still have to find out how to automatically change it) and access speed limited to 14.4 kbps (pay for it if you want to get full speed but there's also 'hacks' to correct it :)
it's a dual-boot setup and using FAT32 on one partition for windoze and linux to share data particularly Thunderbird emails (only have read-only access to NTFS here)
:)
