The sense of "belongingness", I guess, is what attracts others to this line of thinking. Not that it's all that bad, but yeah, the thinking is a bit skewed. > > PLUG, the organization, is a non-profit organization. membership > should not bring you tangible benefits, I beg to differ: being a member is in itself an advertisement for the "cause" that you indeed belong to a group that advocates FOSS, thereby transferring some of the org's karma down to the members. *That's* the most tangible benefit I can think of. But of course, the (draft) guidelines ensure that only those who are really contributing or are willing to contribute become members -- not those who just want to add PLUG membership to their roster of so-called "achievements". > the giddy feeling Brrr... I can feel it. ;) Makes me warm all over. :D The membership guidelines -- draft as they are for now -- as it stand offer some insights into the quality of membership the org expects. The proposed peer system ensures that that quality remains high and consistent. No need for physical meetings, of course, since we can establish creds by what we do for the org and Linux (and FOSS) advocacy. This, for me, is an important step in evolving from a mere "users' club" to one that actively participates in and pushes for the wider adoption of Linux and FOSS. > > i dont know if i am making my point clear, but again the above > statements are my opinion only. Perhaps, Erin, you should start prefacing *all* your posts of this kind with a disclaimer. ;) -- Ian Dexter R.
