Regarding Beowulf distributions, I personally have experience with Debian (stable, or Woody) on a 5 node cluster, and briefly Slackware 9 on a 16 node cluster. It shouldn't matter what distribution you use, but it does matter what MPI implementation you will be using. And regarding PostgreSQL, there's no difference between deploying it on a database node (as a standalone server) in a Beowulf cluster and deploying it on a dedicated database server serving clients via the network. If in case you want to run a clustered PostgreSQL implementation (similar to what you're able to do with clustering DBMS'es, then it shouldn't require a Beowulf cluster). HTH. PS. I'm not sure if this topic would be OT on the PLUG list, given that it's more a Beowulf clustering question than a Linux question. Could somebody please enlighten me? -- Dean Michael C.
