Hi All!
i'm currently investigating LVS and GFS as a
possible solution for the company's email system --
smtp and imap, to be exact. So far all the setups i've
encountered involved a number of front-end servers
accessing a shared storage -- be it an external iSCSI
or Fibre Channel box, to as simple as a linux box with
NFS.
One thing that concerns me is that the external
storage would still bear the brunt of intensive i/o
when accessing mailboxes(be it maildir or mbox). Right
now it would seem that there's still a bottleneck with
respect to accessing mailboxes -- and imap in
particular is i/o intensive(please correct me if i'm
wrong).
Any ideas how the big boys do imap clustering(e.g.
yahoo, hotmail, big corps)?
