For one, you can run other things on the Linux system and customize it to your heart's and mental capacity's content. For instance, if you want a SoHo transparent proxy, I wouldn't know any appliance out there for that purpose. Or perhaps running an RO bot on the Linux based firewall/whatchamacallit-sitting-between-Internet-and-internal-network. *wink* *wink* The possibilities are endless for using PC routers. And regarding the issues you're trying to use as wrenches in the gear-work, there are ways of improving the boot time, power consumption, reliability, stability and performance of your Linux system. But I'm sure you know that already. ;) For one, I wouldn't recommend using a Windows box for a Gateway/Router/Firewall/Whatever-You-Call-It(WYCI). And I'm a zealot, and will never bow down to the firmware giants that is Cisco/Linksys, Sun, Microsoft. Of course you know I'm joking... :) Just as a side issue... :D -- Dean Michael C.
