Depends, IMHO. I believe the "sluggishness" of earlier versions of OS
X is partly to be blamed on the display pipeline. The latest release
of OS X (Tiger) fixes this [1][2].

As for other parts not concerning the display pipeline vis-a-vis OS X
vs Linux, *shrug*
