Cross Country Code is a column in INQ7, so the columnist has free
choice on what he wants to write there. The straight solution I think
is to get another column. Dom used to have one. :)

I think having a column for FOSS is a nice idea. PLUG has just to ensure that there are writers for the column. Also getting a column space requires a lot of contact building and ligawan with publishers.
I just realize that I was hooked to Linux after I read a feature article on FOSS here in SunStar Cebu about FOSS and Ubuntu. The article was prepared I think by the regional DOST here doing some advocacy and research on FOSS with volunteers from the US Peace Corps.
For FOSS advocacy, newspaper columns and press releases can help push FOSS for greater adoption.
I also agree though that IT or infotech articles and columns are mostly PR of propriety softwares.
