Quoting "Norbert P. Copones" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

its true. linux viruses/worms do exist for a long time. even the
contributed korean version of mozilla and thunderbird was found to be
infected by the linux.rst.b virus last september (found by kaspersky lab).

Viruses != Worms

The computer worm is a program that is designed to copy itself from one computer to another over a network. This does not need any human intervention.

Viruses on the other hand are computer programs that are designed to spread themselves from one file to another on a single computer. They require human intervention to propagate (e.g. send email).

The only known Linux-born viruses require root privileges to do things as desired. If you are incredibly stupid to run an untrusted binary as root the problem isn't the virus - PEBKAC. The most a proper virus should do is to wreck your own files - and you'd have to do that willingly by running an infected binary. If you do run an untrusted binary the problem again is not the virus - PEBKAC.

That being said, it's a wild world if you're using Windows :D
